Welcome to Tradin' Tales, Stories From a Montana Back Porch Steve Oiestad captured Stuart McCalmont and me visitin' on our back porch one evening and painted the picture on the cover. Stuart is a gen-u-ine cowboy plumb to the bone, and the only difference between his stories and mine are that mine are all 100% the truth (well...almost). I hope you enjoy your ride through the Real West. Although a lot of things have changed dramatically out here in the last hundred years or so, it might surprise you to find out that some things continue essentially unchanged. A man's word is still his bond, a good saddle horse is still a cowboy's best friend, and swappin' stories remains one of our favorite pastimes. I must concede that if a vote were taken among the cowboys I know, lyin' to each other would come in a very distant second to cowgirls as vocational diversion of choice, but it's still fairly high on the list. Some of the most incredible of these stories are completely the truth; a few are absolute BS; all the others fall somewhere in the large gray area between the first two. Most of those were actually true when they happened, but for some reason seem to get better every time they're told. Thanks for ridin' along. Enjoy. --Ken |
