Differing Opinions contains fourteen chapters about cases and assignments in which I was personally involved during my 30 years as a deputy US Marshal. I adopted the title for my book as a result of the case against Gordon Kahl, in which members of the US Marshals' office in Fargo, North Dakota had different opinions as to the manner in which to seek the arrest of Gordon Kahl. The arrest attempt resulted in the murders of US Marshal Ken Muir, and deputy US Marshal Bob Cheshire, and woundings of several other law enforcement personnel.

The other chapters, all factual, describe the varied and interesting duties of deputy US Marshals, and to some degree, the operations within the US Marshals Service and the US District Courts.
